My Inspiration
My name is Mumbi Njeru, a food technologist. For years I worked in R&D. While I gained incredible experience and technical mastery, I realized I wanted to channel my skills into creating foods that truly nourish and make a meaningful impact. I wanted to do more than just launch products. I wanted to solve real nutritional problems and bring health to families. That question became my obsession: How can I use everything I’ve learned to create food that nourishes, delights, and improves lives? What can I do to feel fulfilled in my career as a food technologist? The answer came in mushrooms. Humble, nutrient-packed, and full of potential, they became the foundation for probiotic mushroom sausages, seasoning blends, drinks and snacks that feed the body and inspire the senses. WellSprout Foods is my answer. Every product is made with care, science, purpose and the intention to nourish families, empower communities, and bring a little more health and joy to the world. By optimizing formulations, refining processing techniques and ensuring food safety standards, the position plays a key role in transformingraw ingredients into high-value, market-ready products. With an innovative approach to product development, the role also explores new methods to enhance flavor, texture and nutritional value, positioning Wellsprout at the forefront of next-generation plant-based food solutions.

Business Development and Production Lead
Derrick Muriithi is a Business Development and Production Lead at Wellsprout, responsible for driving market growth while scaling mushroom production through strong community and farmer engagement. This role bridges agripreneurship and food processing by ensuring a reliable, locally rooted supply chain and translating raw agricultural output into efficient, scalable production systems. With a solid background in technology and project management, the position also focuses on streamlining operations, coordinating product development and trials and implementing systems that support sustainable growth, operational efficiency and consistent product quality across the business.
